Creole is not a language, it is a culture. Those residents of Louisiana and the central Gulf region who describe themselves as Creole, speak English, and if they are bi-lingual at all, their second language is French. Granted, the French they speak is somewhat different from the French you would hear spoken in Paris, but it is still French. It is the same with French-speaking Canadians. Their French is as different from Parisian French, as Texas English is from London English. As someone who is very familiar with the Creole culture of Louisiana, I can tell you that my answer for 5-Down was "French." The word "Creole," when used as an adjective, can apply to any number of things (Creole cooking, Creole culture, Creole mannerisms, etc.). And, the word "Creole" used as a noun may apply to people as well as things. But, the word "Creole" is never used to describe the French language spoken in places like Avoyelles Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish, etc.
